What We Do:
The Division of International Studies, under the leadership of Dean and Vice Provost Gilles Bousquet, plays a central role in promoting and facilitating global engagement and the development of global citizens across campus, helping to ensure UW-Madison’s position as a world-class public research university.
Through partnerships, initiatives, and development activities, the Division advances international teaching, research, and collaboration in every school and college on campus.
Our Mission:
- Support faculty and staff to internationalize their teaching, research, and collaborations:
- Advance the global education of students;
- Lead campus thinking and action around issues of global higher education;
- Serve business, government, and the public in an age of globalization.
Informed by these priorities, Building a Global University, our outcome-driven 2009-14 strategic plan, guides efforts both within the Division and across campus to develop strategic initiatives and partnerships that will enhance international education and research. It is constructed around two strategic pillars: global talent—advancing the education of global citizens—and facilitating the university’s global engagement. Global health and sustainability are its cross-cutting themes; Asia its regional emphasis; and communications and advancement success its essential underpinnings.
