[CALS] Three Weeks in Uganda Or How I Changed My Life Over Winter Break

Each year, students enrolled in a College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) global health class travel to Uganda over winter break to experience the culture, learn about public health issues, and conduct individual research projects. Below are excerpts from the documentary “Three Weeks in Uganda—Or How I Changed My Life Over Winter Break,” which details the students’ trip in 2009. The video was produced by the Big Ten Network in cooperation with UW-Madison and CALS.

Visiting Uganda was a transforming experience. “I feel like they gave more to me than I gave to them,” a student says.

Distributing shoes to village children and their mothers was a humbling experience, students report.

Conditions at the national referral hospital in Uganda left students deeply moved and wanting to help.
