Official Visits 2010-2012

Each year, the Division of International Studies hosts a variety of visitors from all over the world to learn from one another and form partnerships. We invite you to read the documented highlights and photos from these 2010-2012 visits with international friends and witness the growing relations developing among these global partners.

November 2011:
Mukta Dutta Tomar
India

Ms. Mukta Dutta Tomar, the Consul General of India in Chicago since August 2010, visited the UW-Madison campusm on Wednesday and Thursday, November 16-17, 2011.

Her itinerary included a series of meetings with UW-Madison Chancellor David Ward and representatives of the Babcock Institute and Dairy Research, the Center for South Asia and India Initiative, Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, Morgridge Institute for Research / Wisconsin Institute for Discovery, and University Research Park.

Ms. Tomar also attended an event hosted by the Indian Graduate Students’ Association and the Indian Student Association and a dinner hosted by College of Agriculture and Life Science Interim Dean William Tracy and the Division of International Studies.

September 2011:
Haryo Winarso
Indonesia

Gilles Bousquet, Vice Provost for Globalization, Cynthia Williams, Director of External Relations, David Joiner, Director for Global Engagement & Leadership and the Center for Southeast Asian Studies host Dr. Haryo Winarso, Education Attache and his assistant Reny Cordelia from the Indonesian Embassy in a reception at the Red Gym on September 19 to meet UW faculty and students. Dr. Winasaro visited the UW-Madison to discuss expanding educational partnerships and exchanges with Indonesia.


April 2011:
China Scholarship Council
Beijing, China

On Thursday, April 14, 2011, the China Scholarship Council delegation met with UW-Madison campus leaders. The China Scholarship Council provides a special scholarship for the Chinese Champions Program participants. [Read Article]

Kishan Rana, Ambassador and Senior Policy Analyst

Delhi, India

The Center for South Asia welcomes former Indian Ambassador and Senior Policy AnalystKishan Rana to campus. Mr. Rana will be on campus for three weeks as a Distinguished International Visitor under the auspices of theInternational Institute and University Lectures. [Read Article]

Sao Paulo, Brazil

Brazil—one of today’s most vibrant rising global powers and a long-time U.S. partner—is the focus of a variety of visits and events in coming weeks at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. [Read Article]

April 2011:
Executive Vice Governor Du Jiahao
Heilongjiang Province, China

A ten-member delegation from Heilongjiang Province, China, made an official visit to Madison Monday, April 25, 2011. The delegation was headed by Executive Vice Governor Du Jiahao and accompanied by members of the Chicago consulate for the People’s Republic of China. The delegation spent the morning at UW-Madison touring campus and meeting with Provost Paul Deluca. [View Pictures]

April 2011:
Zhao Zhengyong
Shaanxi Province, China

Tuesday, April 12, 2011 – Zhao Zhengyong, governor of Shaanxi Province, headed a nine-member delegation to tour campus as part of a state visit to Wisconsin. [View Pictures]

February 2011:
Wei Yang from Zhejiang University
Zhejiang,  China

Wei Yang, president of Zhejiang University, spent February 20-21, 2011 on campus, learning more about the school where his parents met in the late 1940s.  President Yang’s father, Guang-hua Yang, earned a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from UW-Madison in 1951. [Read Article]

December 2010:
Zhang Jie from Shanghai Jiao Tong University
Shanghai, China

A delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) spent Friday, December 10, 2010, on campus meeting with University of Wisconsin-Madison representatives and touring campus sites. [Read Article]

October 2010:
Wu Ping from Zhejiang University
Zhejiang, China

A delegation from Zhejiang University visited UW-Madison October 25-26, 2010  and attended two days of proceedings. The delegation met with faculty and staff from the Division of International Studies, Department of Kinesiology, and College of Engineering. On Tuesday morning, Vice Provost and Dean Gilles Bousquet signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Wu Ping, the vice president for International Affairs at Zhejiang University. Following the MOU signing, faculty and staff from the Center for East Asian Studies and the Wisconsin China Initiativediscussed study abroad options in Zhejiang University with the delegation and then enjoyed lunch together. Yu Lizhong from East China Normal University
Shanghai, China

Leaders from Shanghai’s East China Normal University (ECNU), one of China’s top institutions of teacher training, visited UW-Madison on September 14 to learn more about the School of Education and discuss possible collaborations in the future. [Read Article]

Huei-wen Hsu from Taipei Economic and Cultural Office
Taiwan

On September 9, 2010, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Chancellor Biddy Martin, Dean and Vice Provost Gilles Bousquet, Huei-wen Hsu, director of the Cultural Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago, and Professor Nicole Huang, director of UW-Madison’s Center for East Asian Studies. [Read Article]

Université des Antilles et de la Guyane
French West Indies

The University of Wisconsin–Madison welcomed a delegation of three vice presidents and one physician from the Université des Antilles et de la Guyane (UAG) this week. [Read Article]

March 2010:
Kong Xiaohong from Anhui Province Development and Reform Commission
Anhui Province, China

A delegation of leaders from China’s Anhui Province traveled to Wisconsin and met with UW–Madison faculty and Division of International Studies‘ staff to discuss a future partnership. Through a close business colleague living in Milwaukee, the delegation connected with the Wisconsin Department of Commerce and arranged a visit to the state to initiate water-focused conversations. [Read Article]

March 2010:
Aslan Sarinzhipov from New University of Astana
Astana, Kazakhstan

UW-News (March 4, 2010) — A newly created partnership will increase cooperation between the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a new university in Kazakhstan. Aslan Sarinzhipov, CEO of JSC New University of Astana, and additional members of a Kazakh delegation joined UW-Madison Chancellor Biddy Martin in signing a contract for partnership, March 4, in Bascom Hall. [Read Article]
