Welcome
Welcome to the website of the Division of International Studies, which plays a central role in promoting and facilitating global engagement and theĀ development of global citizens at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Our goal is to work with our partners across campus to ensure the university’s position as a world-class public research university.
The Division is a cross-campus, interdisciplinary network of people and programs that brings the world to campus and expands the campus to the far corners of the world. We partner with schools and colleges across campus to infuse global content into all curricula and foster synergy among disciplines in the humanities, sciences, and professional schools.
We are dedicated to the objectives of developing global talent and expanding global engagement. This means providing our students with the skills, attitudes and knowledge to navigate in an increasingly interconnected, interdependent world, and establishing meaningful, productive relationships with partners around the world.
Global academic experiences–whether study abroad, internships, field placements, research and service learning–are no longer just niceties; these experiences are integral to the education and future success of our students. These transformative experiences enable our students to see themselves through the eyes of others, to communicate across multiple languages and cultures, and to be global citizens.
At the same time, similar life-changing experiences are happening right here on campus. We offer a home base for more than 4,000 international students from more than 100 countries. Their presence enriches our campus community and further extends the reach of UW-Madison around the world.
We are always happy to share information about our people and programs, and we invite you to visit us online or in person. To learn more about what we do, I invite you to check outĀ Building a Global University, our 2009-14 Strategic Plan.
