Madison Torske Klubben (MTK) Trygve Lonnebotn Scholarship

The Madison Torske Klubben (MTK) Trygve Lonnebotn Scholarship is designed to foster Norwegian-American relations by providing financial support to University of Wisconsin-Madison students studying in Norway, and incoming students from Norwegian universities with which UW-Madison has an exchange agreement. Pending annual renewal, the Trygve Lonnebotn Scholarship awards $10,000 (USD, pre-tax) to one outgoing student and one incoming student per semester. We thank the Madison Torske Klubben for their generous support of this scholarship.

Questions can be directed to Angie Hubbard, Scan Design and Nordic Programs, via alhubbard@wisc.edu.

Below is the information on the MTK scholarship for incoming Norwegian students to UW-Madison:

Eligibility

Students are eligible if their Norwegian home university has a formal agreement with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and they plan to take a full course of study during their time at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Preference will be for students coming from the BI Business School exchange or the Norwegian University of Science and Technology exchange. We are looking for applicants who have great pride in, and a strong knowledge of, Norwegian history and culture, and who wish to share this during their time at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

About the Donors

This scholarship is made possible through the generous donation of Madison Torske Klubben Foundation, the charitable arm of Madison Torske Klubben. The scholarship honors longtime MTK member Trygve Lonnebotn (1937- 2014), who was born and raised in Bergen, Norway. He attended the Technical University in Trondheim, Norway (now NTNU), graduating in 1963 with a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. After his studies, he moved to Wisconsin, where he had a lifelong career at Ray-O-Vac corporation (now Spectrum Brands). In 2005, he was awarded the Order of Merit, Knight First Class, by King Harald V of Norway.

Our sincere thanks go to the members of the Madison Torske Klubben for their generous support of this scholarship, and for their hospitality towards students coming from Norway, and UW-Madison students who have studied in Norway.
