Master of international public affairs (MIPA) student Jamey Kane received a Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowship for the 2018-19 academic year. He will use the fellowship to study Turkish at UW–Madison.
This past summer, Kane completed an internship with the US Department of State, Office of the Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs-Expo Unit. His responsibilities included creating the first comprehensive history of 15 years of donations to US pavilions over five World’s Fairs (Aichi 2005 to Astana 2017) and writing an information memo and white paper regarding his findings.
“His detailed analysis – with individual donor break down and summary statistics – is informing our work today as we implement the $60 million, privately funded, US pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai,” said Matthew Asada, Kane’s supervisor and Expo 2020 Dubai project manager.
Kane received bachelor’s degree in government, and in German language and studies from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, in 2012, and studied in Berlin, Germany, in fall 2010. His undergraduate capstone project focused on defining success in multilateral humanitarian interventions.
Focusing on security policy, Kane came to the La Follette School because of its focus on training in the fundamentals and its emphasis on quantitative research methods.
