AUSTRALIAN CONSUL-GENERAL TO VISIT UW-MADISON CAMPUS
Madison, WI – Bob Charles, Australia’s consul-general in Chicago, will visit the UW-Madison campus January 31, 2006. Mr. Charles will meet with UW-Madison’s Chancellor, the Dean of International Studies, as well as
students, faculty and staff. His visit is being coordinated by the Division of International Studies.
The UW-Madison has several study-abroad and other academic exchanges with universities in Australia, including study-abroad programs at Monash University, Murdoch University, and the Universities of Queensland and Wollogong. Several faculty members have research interests involving Australian history and politics.
Mr. Charles was appointed consul-general of Australia in Chicago in December,
2004. Before assuming his position, he was a member of the House of Representatives
of the Parliament of Australia from 1990 to 2004. He also has held a number
of private sector positions. He was born in Covington, Kentucky and has a bachelor’s
in mechanical engineering from Purdue University, Indiana.
