Act for the World: Educational Forum on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals
Tuesday, October 5, 6 – 8:30 p.m.
Tripp Commons, Memorial Union
The International Student Services (ISS) Millennium Development Goals Awareness Project will host Act for the World: Educational Forum on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG), an event for all students.
The Millennium Goals target the world’s most urgent global challenges, including extreme poverty and hunger, universal education, gender equality, maternal health, child health, HIV, malaria, the environment, and global partnerships.
The forum is designed for students from all majors interested in the work of the United Nations, in learning about the MDGs, and in seeking relevant local, national, and international internships and volunteer opportunities.
UW Assistant Professor Claire Wendland will present “Pitfalls and Progress on the Road to Better Maternal Health.” School of Business Lecturer Thomas Eggert will address sustainability in business with a lecture called “Business and Sustainability: 20 Trends to Watch.” Student organizations will host information tables on each of the eight MDGs, and close to twenty community agencies and campus programs that work with volunteers and interns in MDG related areas will be available to discuss opportunities.
The event is co-sponsored by Global Studies, Go Global! @ UW-Madison, CALS International Programs, WUD-Global Connections, and many others.
