BOUSQUET APPOINTED CHAIR OF CIC GROUP

Madison, WI – Gilles Bousquet, the dean of International Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has been appointed chair of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation’s Senior International Officers group.

The CIC is a consortium of 12 research universities, including the 11 members of the Big Ten Conference and the University of Chicago. CIC universities are leaders in international education and research, offering opportunities for student and faculty involvement in a variety of international programs and projects.

Senior International Officers (SIOs) coordinate, promote, and support international activities of their respective universities. They meet together twice a year to discuss issues of common and national concern, guiding CIC Study Abroad Directors and CIC International Student and Scholarly Services Directors groups, and informing CIC Provosts about strategic issues on their campuses.

Current issues include sharing strategies related to international students and safety in study abroad programs; supporting efforts to coordinate less commonly taught language initiatives; sharing expertise in languages and cultures of the Middle East; and reviewing the impact of the U.S. Patriot Act on international student admissions.
