A special workshop on August 16 will provide educators, librarians, students and other interested in literature for children and young adults an opportunity to learn about Muslims around the world through presentations on literature, media, history and social organizations.
The 2014 International Children’s and Young Adult Literature Celebration: Muslim Journeys – sponsored by the Wisconsin International Outreach Consortium (WIOC) – will feature presentations by award-winning authors Ali Alalou, Rukhsana Khan and Naheed H. Senzai, and peace journalist Saideh Jamshidi. Other presenters will offer insights and teaching resources on the topic.
The workshop will be held Saturday, August 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Madison Concourse Hotel, 1 West Dayton Street. The event will conclude with a book signing and reception.
Registration is $65, $35 for students, and includes the full-day workshop, choice of book by one of the featured authors (see registration page), continental breakfast, poster, and lunch with the authors. The deadline to register is August 6.
