Funding Opportunity: New Joaquim Nabuco Award – Applications Due May 3

The Brazil Initiative, a program that was started by the Division of International Studies and the Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Studies program, recently announced the creation of the Joaquim Nabuco Award to be given annually to the best essay on Brazil by a University of Wisconsin–Madison graduate or undergraduate student.

The initiative and award were created in response to the growing global importance of Brazil in economic and political spheres. The prize includes a cash amount of $1,500 and round-trip airfare to Brazil.

Submissions for the 2010 Joaquim Nabuco Award will be accepted until May 3, 2010 and essays may be written in English or Portuguese.
