Guido Podesta, Professor in the UW-Madison Department of Spanish and Portuguese and Director of the Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies Program (LACIS), has been named Associate Dean in the Division of International Studies, the Dean of International Studies, Gilles Bousquet, announced today.
Professor Podesta holds Ph.D. and M.A. degrees from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and received his B.A. from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Lima, Perú. He was resident director of the university’s joint Madrid Study Abroad Program (with the Universities of Indiana and Purdue) from 2003-04, and Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese from 2000-03. He has received numerous awards including a Romnes Faculty Fellowship, an Institute for Research in the Humanities resident fellowship and an American Council for Learned Societies senior fellowship. He joined the UW-Madison in 1988.
Professor Podesta will replace Associate Dean Aili Tripp (Professor, Political Science, Women’s Studies), whose term expires at the end of the current academic year.
