Spring 2026 Call for Proposals
Purpose
To support UW-Madison’s partnership with Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) in Germany and the development of new linkages between our universities, the International Division is requesting proposals for the utilization of Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility funds. These funds cover travel and living costs for individuals employed at UW to collaborate with their colleagues at JLU. These funds are allocated for training/collaboration and do not cover joint teaching.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be UW-Madison faculty or academic staff with a 50% or greater appointment.
- Applications must have written support from at least one faculty/staff member at JLU.
Funding
Funds must be used to support faculty and staff travel to JLU for a minimum of five days to a maximum of two weeks. Funding is allocated in the following amounts:
- Travel lump sum: €820
- Per diem: €160
Supported Activities
Priority will be given to proposals that are likely to lead to ongoing collaboration with JLU and that include at least one of the following focus areas: research, teaching, student/faculty mobility, or K-14 outreach. Examples in these areas include:
- Initiation of a new or new phase of a research project with JLU colleagues.
- Joint development of a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) course that could be offered to students at UW-Madison and JLU.
- Development of a faculty-led study abroad program at JLU and/or for students from JLU to come to the U.S.
- Creation of curriculum resources on a relevant area of study for students in Germany and the U.S.
Funds may be used for travel, short-term housing, and per diem. The funds cannot be used for tuition payments or remission, salaries, or long-term housing.
Application Process
Please submit a two-page description of the proposed activity (single-spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch margins). The proposal should include the following categories:
- Project overview
- Project objectives
- Proposed activities (specifying research/teaching, student/faculty mobility, and/or K-14 outreach)
- Deliverables and intended outcomes
As appendices, please include:
- A two-page CV or brief bio for the UW-Madison applicant.
- An invitation by a department or professor at JLU (acceptable formats: formal letter, copy of email).
- A completed JLU Mobility Agreement, which can be downloaded on the Staff Training Mobility at JLU webpage.
The entire document should be no more than six pages and submitted by the deadline as a single PDF document to externalrelations@international.wisc.edu with a subject headline “JLU Erasmus+ Proposal [submitter’s LAST name].”
Timeline and Process
There are two deadlines for proposals:
- For activities that will be carried out between April 1–June 30, 2026, the completed applications must be submitted by February 20, 2026, at 12 PM CST. Decisions will be made by February 27.
- For activities that will be carried out in July 2026, completed applications must be submitted by April 6, 2026, at 12 PM CST. Decisions will be made by April 20, 2026, and the activities must be completed by July 31, 2026.
The selection decision will be made by a sub-committee convened by the International Division with the Vice Provost and Dean of the International Division making the final selection. Expenses must be approved by the International Division Dean’s Office prior to the commencement of activity. All expenditures are subject to UW rules and policy.
