Will Discuss Details of Tsinghua University Student Exchange Agreement, Formation of Exploratory Committee to Develop Global Manufacturing Institute and Other Agreements Reached as Part of the Mission
Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton will deliver a briefing to UW faculty, students and press on the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) overseas mission to China on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the University Club in Madison at 3:30 p.m.
The mission was a part of NLGA Chair Lawton’s focus on bringing jobs and economic development to the United States and building important relationships with overseas officials. During the eight-day trip, Lt. Governor Lawton traveled to Beijing, Chengdu, Mianyang and Shanghai.
Lt. Governor Lawton last Thursday announced the signing of a student exchange agreement between the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) and Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Lt. Governor Lawton also reached an agreement for UW-Madison and Tsinghua University to form an exploratory committee to establish a Global Manufacturing Institute in collaboration with the University of Warwick in England.
Details of the agreements as well as other developments will be included at a press briefing on Lt. Governor Lawton’s trip to China tomorrow afternoon.
