Language Institute: Tell us a little bit about yourself. Why did you decide to come to the University of Wisconsin-Madison?
Claus E. Andersen: Coming to UW-Madison is basically a dream come true. I’ve come to the oldest and one of the most renowned Scandinavian programs in the world. I’m really happy to be here and be part of the department.
LI: What are you most looking forward to this semester and why?
CA: I’m looking forward to getting to know many new colleagues across campus, but especially working with students. After three weeks of classes, I’m excited and impressed with just how good students are here at UW-Madison.
LI: What’s the best part about studying another language and culture?
CA: As a literary scholar, I will say the literature. Being able to really get to know a language and a culture you need to know the literature and the literary history. It expands our knowledge of the world – and of who we are and where we come from.
