Purpose
Through the generous gift of donors, the S & S Scholarship was established to assist undergraduate and graduate students who face financial challenges in affording their education. The funds, to be administered by the International Division, will provide scholarships for students who have experienced hardship or disadvantage that has impacted their educational opportunities.
Award Information
Scholarships of up to $10,000 per applicant are available to put towards tuition and fees for the spring 2026 semester. For this round of scholarship funding, the award must be applied to tuition and fees. We anticipate offering 10 scholarships for the spring 2026 semester.
Eligibility
Required Qualifications
The S & S Scholarship is open to applicants who:
- Are currently enrolled at UW–Madison for the 2025-2026 academic year as full-time undergraduate and graduate students. Graduate students must be in pre-dissertator status during the award term (spring 2026).
- Experienced hardship or disadvantage that has impacted their educational opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to students who:
- Are ineligible to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
- Lived in Africa or Asia prior to enrolling at UW–Madison.
- Are currently enrolled in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field at UW–Madison.
- Could apply the entire scholarship to cover the cost of tuition and fees for the spring 2026 semester.
How to Apply
Interested applicants should submit a completed application form that includes:
- An essay of no more than 500 words describing the hardship or disadvantage they have experienced that has impacted educational opportunities.
- A resume (two page maximum for undergraduate students and five page maximum for graduate students).
- UW–Madison academic transcript to confirm field of study.

Timeline and Review Process
Completed applications must be submitted by Friday, November 14, 2025, at 12 PM CST. The selection decision will be comprised of a sub-committee convened by the International Division, with the Vice Provost and Dean of the International Division making the final selection.
Decisions will be made by December 19, 2025, and funds must be used by June 30, 2026. Extensions will be permitted on a case-by-case basis. All expenditures are subject to UW rules and policy.
