Tomorrow in Green Bay: International Economic Development Roundtable

Green Bay—This Wednesday, June 9, Richard McCreary president and CEO of Marinette Marine Corporation (MMC) will discuss the economic impacts of a pending federal contract on the region, as well as new investment in jobs and infrastructure in their Wisconsin-based operations since MMC was acquired by Fincantieri Marine Group Holdings, Inc. in early 2009.

The roundtable is hosted by the UW System International Economic Development Task Force and will bring together leaders in local business, education, and nonprofit sectors to explore ways to attract investments and jobs to the New North and surrounding regions. It will take place at the University of Wisconsin—Green Bay.

The Task Force, established earlier this year by UW System President Reilly and co-hosted by David J. Ward and Gilles Bousquet, is charged with exploring the ways international expertise and contacts throughout the UW System can be tapped to help attract international investment and promote growth in international markets.

More about the International Economic Development Task Force:

In early 2010, UW System president Kevin Reilly established the UW System International Economic Development Task Force to develop a statewide strategy aimed to strengthen Wisconsin’s opportunities for foreign investment. The UW System institutions boast a strong portfolio of international programs and connections. These assets, along with those of the Wisconsin Technical College System, comprise a formidable array of education, research, technologies, and relationships that could further the state’s international economic development efforts.

The Task Force is co-chaired by David J. Ward, former interim chancellor at UW-Green Bay and president/founder of NorthStar Economics, and Gilles Bousquet, dean of the Division of International Studies and vice provost for Globalization at UW-Madison.
