Global Studies in Higher Education presents “The Power of Communication & Information in an Emerging Global Knowledge Society,” with Abdul Waheed Khan, assistant director-general for Communication and Information of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Dr. Khan will appear on Monday, September 28, from 12-1:30 p.m., at 4151 Grainger Hall on the UW-Madison campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Learn More about Dr. Abdul Waheed Khan
Dr. Abdul Waheed Khan has led UNESCO’s Communication and Information sector since 2001. In this capacity, Dr. Khan is responsible for advancing the global standard setting and coordinating and implementing concrete projects for harnessing the power of communication and information for development. He provides global leadership in promoting freedom of expression and press freedom, media independence, and pluralism, as well as the development of communication and access to information and knowledge through media and Information Communication Technology (ICT).
During his many years of work in designing, planning, and managing ICT applications in education, sciences, culture, agriculture, and rural development, Dr. Khan has worked for international organizations including the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) , the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) , the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) , the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) , and the World Bank. Dr. Khan holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communication (1973) and a Master’s degree in Agricultural Journalism (1970) from University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master’s degree in Agricultural Extension (1965) from Agra University, India.
