Updates for our international community

Dear International Students, Scholars, Faculty, and Staff,

As you are likely already aware, during recent weeks, a number of international students and scholars around the United States have been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). To date, we have received no such reports involving UW–Madison students, scholars, faculty, or staff.

Even so, we understand the situation may be highly unsettling—especially for you and our broader international community. You are a valued and integral part of campus life, not only for the perspectives you bring to our teaching, research, and engagement mission, but also for the many ways you enrich the university’s social and cultural life. We continue to be deeply grateful for your presence at UW–Madison.

If you have questions or concerns, please know that information and resources are available to you. ISS remains available to advise individuals holding F and J student statuses at UW–Madison. IFSS is available to advise the J-1 scholars, H-1Bs, TNs, E-3s, and O-1s who are sponsored by the Universities of Wisconsin. ISS has shared additional information and resources on its webpage, Resources on Immigration Issues.

I also encourage you to contact other campus offices for additional support. Several of these offices are linked below.

I want to assure you that I and other campus leaders are closely monitoring this situation and other federal issues that might affect you, and we will notify you with any updates.

Sincerely,

Frances Vavrus

Vice Provost and Dean

International Division
