The University of Wisconsin-Madison has been ranked the second in the nation, and first among public universities, for innovative foreign language learning in 2018.
According to thebestcolleges.org, UW-Madison is awarded this honor because of its position as “a leader in foreign language education and research.” UW-Madison offers a wide variety of languages each semester and over the summer, include many ancient and less-commonly studied languages.
The rankings by The Best Colleges also emphasized UW-Madison’s Language Institute, a center to support research, education, advising and outreach related to the study of language.
Associate Director of the Language Institute Dianna Murphy encourages language study at UW.
“Language study is a key component of the Wisconsin Experience to prepare students to become outstanding leaders who are engaged locally, nationally, and globally,” Murphy said.
