Teach for Nepal, co-founded by Shisir Khanal (MIPA ’05), celebrated its five-year anniversary in April 2018. Adapted from Teach for America’s model, Teach for Nepal is a movement of young leaders who seek to end education inequity in Nepal through direct service in classrooms and by working in areas that drive structural change.
Teach for Nepal offers a unique opportunity for university graduates and young professionals to grow as leaders while having a significant and immediate impact on education inequality in Nepal. During a two-year program, Teach for Nepal fellows are engaged in full-time, salaried work as teachers and community change-makers.
Fellows bring about academic achievement and transformative impact in their public school students and harness their leadership skills through the teaching and development training experience.
“Today marks another important step toward bridging the gap of quality education between public and private schools,” Khanal said during the five-year celebration. “We welcomed 70 new exceptional graduates with high academic ability to teach our children so we can prepare them for the world and make sure Nepal succeeds in the global race.”
In 2017, Teach for Nepal received a Spirit of Excellent award from Vaidya’s Organization of Industries and Trading Houses for its contribution in providing quality education to children in rural Nepal.
