Indonesian ambassador visits UW-Madison campus

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the United States, Sudjadnan Parnohadiningrat, visited the UW-Madison campus May 4 and gave a public talk about U.S.-Indonesia relations in the current context of East and Southeast Asia. Gilles Bousquet, dean of International Studies, and Andy Sutton, the director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, welcomed the Ambassador. Dean Bousquet said UW-Madison had a strong connection to Indonesia, with over 100 Indonesian students enrolled on campus this year making a significant contribution to the life of the university and the greater Madison area community. The Ambassador described the country’s difficulties during Asia’s economic downturn in Asia but spoke of the country’s resurgence and its importance as the world’s third largest democracy.
