International students, families visit local family farm

A group of UW-Madison international students, along with some family members, enjoyed a Wisconsin experience by visiting a local family farm on Sunday, June 30, 2013.

The international group traveled by bus to the farm just outside Cottage Grove, owned by Martha Querin-Schultz of the International Student Services (ISS) staff and her husband, Steve.

The Schultz family, along with friends and neighbors, combined efforts to provide an array of activities to introduce the international group to life in rural Wisconsin. These included rides in a tractor-pulled hay wagon and horse-drawn wagon, demonstrations of cheesemaking, honey farming, hay-baling, spinning wool and making yarn, and square-dancing.

Also, farm implements and other items were on display.

The visitors also had the opportunity to design squares for quilts to mark the occasion, and to play such games as horseshoes and beanbag toss.
