EXCERPT:
UW-Madison enrolls nearly 2,000 degree-seeking students from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. In 2007-2008, 178 UW-Madison students studied abroad in the greater China area. Gilles Bousquet, vice provost for globalization, said he wants to make it the No. 1 destination for study abroad trips.
He’s said Martin’s physical trips — which have been funded by the UW Foundation — to China are important.
“A lot of chancellors and presidents do one trip,” Bousquet said. “We’ve shown the chancellor herself, the leader of this institution, has been on ground visiting more than once. It’s very meaningful for our Chinese partners.”
